Why Mobilizing tribal militia is the last hope to bring Al-Shabaab to an end?

Somali government with the support of US and African union troops has been fighting the Al-Shabaab insurgency for well over a decade. Repeatedly ground and aerial combats had only bear limited progress countering al-Shabaab since the insurgency dominate and rule vast rural areas in which conducting deadly attacks on Somali major cities have been largely planned.

Fallowing this -local militia participation has been viewed as a crucial part in the fight against al-Shabaab since Somali national forces backed by African union forces which makes up together about 40,000 troops with vast resources failed to defeat al-Shabaab.

The war with the al-Shabaab insurgency dragged on sixteen years of fruitless which has cost countless lives and derail Somali’s state building, federal government seek alternative tools other than direct confrontation to ease the burden and defeat al-Shabaab in an effective way.

Initiatives led by representative of a legislative constituencies “MPs” began to Mobilize the so called “MA’WISLEY” local militia in vast majority in south and central Somalia. Rural communities in the nomad Districts which al-Shabaab considers as safe haven and finds strategic to encounter federal government of Somalia over the past sixteen years has finally decided to disassociate the insurgency after enduring years of immense suffering- denial humanitarian access and atrocities marked by the brutality of Al-Shabaab’s rule.

The insurgency began using excessive violence by exercising strict methods that put the community fear and hopeless alongside destroying vial infrastructure such as water wells and communication equipment

Amid humanitarian crisis and civilians facing life-threatening conditions, in spite Al-Shabaab imposed unprecedented taxes on residents of the villages, United nation issued fresh warnings that many parts of Somalia are on the brink of famine while al-Shabaab played a crucial role after banning humanitarian assistances to reach parts under their authority.

A local militia in hiiraan called “Ma’wisley” waged the first war against al-Shabaab which incited many clans to establish resistance fighters, the federal government of Somalia vows to back any militia that raise up to fight against al-Shabaab by offering all logistical, military and air support. Notwithstanding the sympathizers including elders and scholars began to disembark their ill-fated ideology by engaging front lines against al-shabaab

Shortly after launching a fierce attacks, local militias reportedly captured more territory of al-Shabaab’s most strong-holds in central region by pushing al-Shabaab forces to retreat on southern parts, whereby several front lines opened in many regions including bay, bakool and middle Shebelle.

However, Hundreds of al-Shabaab militants have been killed and many wounded, subsequently the insurgency adopt brutal retaliation against the tribal leaders and its elated people including doctors, businessman and elders in several assassination attempts occurred in the capital city of Somalia “Mogadishu”.

This extent of terror and violence initiated by al-Shabaab to put fear and confusion among the clans who fearlessly stoop up against al-Shabaab escalated into full-scale war and motivated several other clans to formally join the fight.

This combat led by tribal militia has been considered to be a successful mission and one of the most fruitful fights against Al-qaida and ISIS in middle east and now Somalia to be the next country to set free its land from the longest serving terrorist organization in Africa. Continuing strikes speed up The terrorist group on the verge of collapse.
